The Patapsco Valley is a tiny valley in central Maryland that surrounds the Patapsco River. The region's historical significance as a significant economic and industrial hub in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries is well-known.
There have been numerous sightings of the American black bear in the state park and surrounding area. A sighting was filmed in Catonsville, Maryland, by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police in 2016.
The Patapsco River, which flows through Baltimore, is considered by many historians to be one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution, and dams built along the stream were key sources of electricity. Bloede Dam was the first hydro dam in the United States to house the turbines within.
Unless otherwise indicated, swimming is permitted in all sections along the river. This is an unsecured, swim-at-your-own-risk location, and swimmers should be wary of strong currents and jagged stones along the river's bottom, as they should be in all areas of the river.
