A model of novelist and naturalist Benjamin Banneker's log cabin can be found at this park dedicated to him.

The farm house, his laboratory, and the clock he made in his younger days were all demolished on the day of Banneker's funeral. Only one of Banneker's manuscript journals was not at the home and thus survived.
Banneker gained notoriety in 1752 when he created a clock entirely out of wood. The clock, which is said to be the first in America, kept accurate time for decades. Banneker began making astronomical calculations in 1789, which enabled him to correctly predict a solar eclipse.
