A massive, intricate play structure with spaces for big and tiny kids is featured in this community park.
The playground, which opened in 2005 in Edgeley Grove Park, is the result of the community's outpouring of love and support for Annie Cumpston, a 6-year-old girl who died 10 years ago this Saturday, March 23, 2003, after being hit by a hit-and-run driver in downtown Baltimore.
The closure is being held to enable for the completion of repairs prior to the busy summer months. The project entails removing the old pressure-treated wooden playground in the section for children aged 2 to 5 years old and replacing it with a new custom creative playground designed specifically for that age group.
Annie's Playground was established in 2005 in honor of Annie Cumpston and many other children who died too young as a result of an accident or sickness. Thousands of volunteers came out and contributed their time over the course of 13 days to build Annie's Playground.
